So, not Inwood after all. We're looking at a place in Brooklyn, sort of between Kensington and Windsor Terrace. The apartment we're contemplating is really close to Vox Pop, which would be super-cool, and right next door to Prospect Park. We shall see if it works out. Even if not, though, I think we've narrowed it down to Brooklyn for sure. At various times I've been enamored of Jackson Heights, Astoria, Riverdale, and of course Inwood, but Brooklyn is where most of our friends are, and where my brother lives. I think it's a good place to start.
I've also decided (reluctantly) to homeschool M for a while after we move. New York has different age requirements for school entrance, so the other kids M's age are going into first grade next year (she hasn't done kindergarten yet). That, combined with the fact that NYC schools are all about No Child Left Behind, standardized tests, and not a lot of recess, and I'm scared away from public school. Maybe we'll find something we like (and can afford) once we get there.
Less than three months to go!!!
